My Vet Trip by Spunky Doodle

My Vet Trip by Spunky Doodle

Today Manny and I got to go for a long ride to the vet. I don't mind the carrier or the car ride, but didn't like when that vet lady grabbed my by the scruff of the neck. Boy, she wasn't fooling around! I weigh 12.5 lbs. She held me a lot which I don't care for. She looked at my teeths, poked sticks in my ears, and stuck a needle in my rump but I didn't make a sound. She kept petting my sides and that was it. Then she pushed me back into the carrier. I was glad to get home and was first out of the carrier. Then I got Tuna Flakes, Yum Yum!

Way Up High! by Spunky Doodle

Way Up High! by Spunky Doodle

When I heard about Daisy the Curly Cat's blog entry about her trying to climb up on top of the kitchen cabinets, it reminded me of how fun it was to jump up on top of the wardrobe so today I went up there again. I even laid on top for awhile, but then my human, Gerard, came to get me down. Karen had the camera and wanted to get me jumping off but I went so quick she couldn't do it! I really was surprised when I got this email from Daisy yesterday:

Hi Spunky Doodle! I am glad you let me know, because I didn't see them earlier. You are just like me when I climb up onto the very top shelf in my Mommie's closet (I learned how to open the bi-fold doors). After a few hours my Mommie usually tries to get me down, and I just keep backing away from her! It is very impressive that you can do such a big jump without your clawrs, because they help you really grab on.

Be sure to check out Daisy's blog at www.daisythecurlycat.blogspot.com. It's VERY Funny!

Let Me In! by Spunky Doodle

Let Me In! by Spunky Doodle

Boy, yesterday I was alone most of the day because my humans worked in the VBS at church all morning and then after a short stop home, they took off for golfing (whatever that is). I don't know what it is, but it must take long because they didn't get back until 4:30.

Then though, Karen went in the basement and let me come too. I like it down there because there's lots of things to jump on and inspect. Sometimes I even find a spider! Anyhow, yesterday I didn't come up when she did and when I was ready to, the door was closed to the kitchen and I couldn't get in! There is no food or water or litter box in the basement so I really needed to get back upstairs. Finally, at 10:00 Karen saw me sitting on the other side of the kitchen door and let me in. Good thing she saw me!

What a Fun Day! by Spunky Doodle

What a Fun Day! by Spunky Doodle

Karen was busy all afternoon getting things ready for something called VBS next week. She brought up a bunch of boxes from the basement which I had fun jumping in and out of while Manny just watched.

Then she rolled some balls around on the floor and threw balls at cups and knocked them over while I watched Manny chase the balls around.

THEN, Karen did something really strange! She got a big brown round plastic thing and put it in the upstairs tub and filled it up with water. It was hot and I was tempted to go in, but it was too deep.

I like sticking my paws in the water bowl and then licking them, but I didn't like when the toilet seat came off as I was jumping down and got my feet wet then.

I didn't mind at all when Gerard used to squirt me with water from a bottle to get me to get off the kitchen counter. HA! That was so funny! I just stayed put and took it. Then Karen would yell at him saying he shouldn't get me all soaked like that. It was so funny! Anyhow, that was when I was a kitten. I am more cautious now so decided not to jump in.

What I've Been Up To Lately by Spunky Doodle

What I've Been Up To Lately by Spunky Doodle

Peek-a-boo!

Monday, June 30, 2008: A Very Busy Day

Today I knocked over the big ceramic owl and Wishbone who block my entrance to behind the TV and I got inside by the warm cable box again. YES! I also stood up to Manny today and even got the jump on him when he was eating. Mew, Mew, Mew. Very fun! I didn't actually jump ON him, just next to him. Then we both ran into the den where he finally learned to play with the mouse toy while I watched him. He's not so bad at it.

Tuesday, June 24, 2008: Answering Machine

This morning I helped Karen set up her new answering machine. Yesterday, Manny started pawing at me so I jumped on him and ran away.

Tuesday Night, June 17, 2008: Back on the Bed

Tonight I decided to go back on the bed next to Karen since it was cool again. I know she loves it when I come. I purred in her ear while she pets me. Then I settled in next to her for a couple hours. It's the best way to get her attention!

Monday, June 16, 2008: The Chase

Manny really surprised me today. I was in the den with Karen, minding my own business and in comes Manny. He jumped towards me and I ran and he chased after me! He's fast too! This is new for me. I was always the chaser with Mr. Moe, not the chasee. Then, Manny knocked off Coke Bear's hat and Gerard blamed me when he couldn't find it. Humpfy dumpf! MEOW!

June 11, 2008--Teaching Manny to Play

I've been busy lately with Manny. I hang around with him through the day. He comes and sniffs my butt like I used to do with Moe. He finally ran the other day for the first time and now I am showing him how to play with the feather toy. I'm not sure though how I feel about sharing my play time with him, but I guess it's okay. It is nice having company during the day.

June 4, 2008--Interviewed

I was interviewed yesterday by Jazmin who will feature me as a "Cool Cat" on her blog at http://www.jazminpersonified.com

June 3--The Tour

Well, Karen asked me to show Manny around the house so that's what I've been doing these days. First, I showed him my den. Then last night, I showed him the dining room and the living room (he found the computer room on his own). This morning I gave him the tour of the big closet in the den. It's kind of fun showing the new guy around--I finally have something meaningful to do!

May 31--Finally Found Out What's been Going on Around Here

It's another cat named Manny. He's handsome and big like Moe used to be. I was finally allowed inside and I sniffed all around. I hissed at him three times just to let him know I was here first. l went back in later and sniffed all around. I even went inside Manny's fancy litter box that has a roof on it. Karen brought up some tuna for each of us. That was good! I think we'll soon be friends--I hope! I miss chasing Moe around the house.

At night, Karen was trying to get me to leave the den. Don't know why but I decided to stay. THEN she left and closed the door. I was stuck in there ALL NIGHT!

Something's Going On

Strange things going on. Karen is closing the doors on me to keep in a one room for awhile. Don't know why. There's something up with the room upstairs--the door is always closed not and I can't get in! I sometimes lay in front of the door. Karen put up a cardtable on its side in the hallway near that room, but I don't know why. She does goofy things sometimes. I am trying to figure out what's going on.

(Karen wrote about it on her blog at www.zemeks.blogspot.com. Maybe you could go see it and report back to me to let me know what's going on in that room. MEOW!, please!)

Ping Pong Ball

Karen played with me on the steps today with the ping pong ball. It goes fast. I love to whack it down the stairs and then chase after it. It's so much fun!

Bathtub Play

Today I played with the bathtub plug. I haven't done that in awhile. I like to grab at it and carry it in my mouth, then jump out of the tub and hide it somewhere and watch Karen go looking for it. It's so fun!

Hide-n-Seek

As Karen was getting ready to go off to work this morning, I got her to play hide-n-seek with me. She checked all my usual spots first, but of course I wasn't there. I hid under her bed this morning. It was fun! I always win at hide-n-seek. I love that game!!!

Bug Hunt

After a nice night of sleeping on the bed next to Karen, I found a bug to chase around before breakfast today and with my help, Karen was able to squish it. Oh, such a fun way to start the day!

Great Day!

It finally got warm enough outside for Karen to open the windows tonight. I love sitting by an open window!

This was a Super Fun Day & Productive!

First off, I got Karen to clear of the ledge at the top of the hallway stairs so I can walk and lay on it if I want. It was full of dolls, so I just kept knocking some stuff off them. When that didn't work, I finally shoved a whole doll off, letting it tumble down the stairs. That's when Karen finally cleared off the ledge for me.

Another fun thing I got to do today was jump into the refrigerator! I don't get to go in there often, but it's a great place to cool of quick and I always get a lot of attention when I do that!

Love to Go Inside Things

I like going inside the TV stand any laying next to the cable box but Karen blocked my way off behind the TV because one of the cords kept coming loose from the cable box every time I went there. I miss that spot!

I had a fun time getting inside the kitchen cupboard at breakfast time a few days ago. I like cupboards and closets. Sometimes though, when I go in a closet, Karen or Gerard close the door and I'm stuck in there until they come looking for me. I guess they didn't see me come in.

Looking forward to a nice day of laying in front of the heater.

My advice to you today is to take a little nap.

Moew!

My Vet Trip by Manny

Posted on: 07/26/08

My Vet Trip by Manny

Today was a very strange day. First off, when I did my poops this morning, Karen chased me out of the box before I could cover it up. I didn't know what to make of that because I do usually do a pretty good job at covering if I say so myself. Then, she scooped it out of the box but instead of throwing it in the big waste can like usual, she dumped it into a little plastic bag.

Later, she was playing with me in the den as usual, but this time when I walked into that blue box with the gate on it that says "Pet Taxi" to get the catnip bag, she shut the gate on me! I couldn't get out and then had a long, long car ride with Spunky Doodle on the floor of the back seat. I didn't know what was going on. I was just getting used to living here and liking it. I was scared, very scared and let her know with my meowing.

It turns out we wound up at a place called Dr. Hart's Animal Hospital. It was sort of nice laying in our cages outside but then when we went in, more animals came too. Two dogs and two little kittens. Oh, Karen gave the bag of my poops to some lady when we got there. I never saw it again after that.

First, the vet lady pulled Spunky out and held her, looked and her teeths, poked in her ears and stuck her with a needle. Then shoved her back in and it was my turn. I hid under the towels that were inside the pet taxi but she found me anyhow. She tried pulling me out and I gave her my bestest growl, but that didn't scare her away! She grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and pulled me out. Then she held ME! AAGGHHH! I DO NOT LIKE TO BE HELD! I was very afraid of this lady. She said I weighed 12 lbs., looked inside my ears, looked at my sharp teeths and said they were a little yellow but that's okay. Then she put the towel part way over my head by my face and poked me with TWO needles. Spunky was only poked once. Humf!

I was very happy to get back home. It was a very scary adventure, but Karen seemed happy when the vet lady said I didn't have parasites. The vet lady asked what food I ate and told Karen to try cutting out the Meow Mix altogether. She thought that's what makes my poops mushy. She also said it may be because I'm stressed.

I went to the litter box as soon as I got back.

The Cat Age Test

Posted by Karen & Gerard Posted on: 07/21/08

The Cat Age Test

The CatAge Test will calculate your cat's biological age, or CatAge, in people years, based on your cat's health, nutrition, activity level, behavior, risk of disease, and safety.

You'll also receive personalized cat health recommendations to help your cat live a longer, healthier life.

The CatAge test consists of the following components:
* General Health
* Medical History
* Food/Nutrition
* Exercise
* Social Health
* RESULTS

From the creators of RealAge(R)

Source and location of the testing site: www.catage.com

You'll have to give your email address to be e-mailed the results so read the privacy policy first. It's located at the bottom of the page.

Did you take the test?
What did it say about your cat(s)?

I took the test for Manny and Spunky and was happy to find they are both younger than the average catAge for their breed. In people years, Spunky is 28.8 and Manny is 20.9.

I'll share the catnip bag, the Tuna Flakes are MINE!

My Birthday Party by Spunky Doodle

My Birthday Party by Spunky Doodle

Today we finally celebrated my 4-year birthday. Actually, I was born in May but Karen didn't bring me in until July 10 four years ago so that's really my "Gotcha Day."

I got presents. A can of tuna flakes that get sprinkled on top of my food. The best part is, Manny doesn't care for it so I don't have to share. (Moe used to like that too so whenever we got it, I had to share with him.) I also got a catnip bag that both Manny and I played with.

Manny really likes it! He even went inside the pet taxi to get it and he is afraid of going in that little box. We will be going to see the doctor next Saturday, so Karen was trying to get Manny used to the carrier so he will go in easily. We'll see. I like the carrier myself and often go in. The doctor, not so much, but when we get home, Karen gives me a treat.

A House of Cats-Visit to a Cat Sanctuary

A House of Cats-Visit to a Cat Sanctuary

The video below above was taken June 21, 2008 when I took the tour of Caroline's Kids Pet Rescue, a non-profit cat sanctuary located in a house in Painesville, Ohio. The house was remodeled specifically for the cats. It's pretty awesome but also very stinky! About 200 cats reside there, most of which are adoptable. This is a no-kill shelter that takes in cats other shelters would euthanize such as ferel cats, older cats and cats that tested positive for feline HIV but are not in any pain. Testing is done right on site.

I enjoyed petting a lot of these cats. Most were friendly and eager to be pet. Watch the video--it's amazing and the cats are not kept in cages but rather large rooms with some big windows and climbing areas. All the cats stay inside.

Go to the web site for more information at www.carolines-kids.org

For more pictures and my other posts about this fantastic place, please stop by my other blogs at http://www.zemeks.blogspot.com and http://www.karenzemek.blogspot.com.

Back on the Bed Again!

Back on the Bed Again!

Last night I was delighted to be woken up at 2:00 a.m. by Spunky Doodle coming on the bed and nestling in next to me where I could pet her. She used to come every night, but then when Manny came and we let him free to roam, she quit coming in by me. It was great to have her back, even though I didn't sleep as soundly as I have been.

What hat?

Where's Coke Bear's Hat?

Posted by Karen & Gerard Posted on: 06/17/08

Where's Coke Bear's Hat?

We have a stuffed bear that sits in a red wagon that says "Coke" on it. The bear has a little red hat that is removeable. This is a very special bear because it's very old and we've never seen another like it anywhere.

Gerard noticed the hat was missing and immediately blamed Spunky Doodle because she's known to play with things and then doesn't put them back. Well, he looked around for it and was getting more and more angry. I helped him look and found it across the dining room almost under a table.

The next morning, while I was getting my breakfast, Manny comes walking by with Coke Bear's hat in his mouth! I thought it was so funny that we blamed Spunky Doodle, when here it was probably our man cat, Manny! I should have taken a picture but thought of it too late after I already took the hat from the cat and placed it back on Coke Bear.

Poor Spunky, she gets blamed for everything!

Manny Played the Piano!

Manny Played the Piano!

Here I am at my computer and Manny came in with me as usual. All of a sudden, I heard the piano behind me and then saw Manny on the floor nearby. I wish I had actually seen him up there, but my back is to the piano when I'm on the computer. Guess he was caught be surprise. It'll be interesting to see if he ever goes up there again.

He also jumped up on the dining room table today which is the first time I ever saw him do that. I actually got him to play with a string on a stick too--he even jumped up in the air for it!
