Manny's Story by Manny (formerly Foofee)

Saturday:

My name has been changed now for the 4th time!  It was some vampire name first given to my by a teenage boy, then Linda, then Foofee.  I'm a male cat for crying out loud!  Give me a strong, male name.  When I was kicked out of my home because of allergies and a new baby who outranked me, a friend of my mom's came to visit and the next day, kidnapped me.

I am now being kept in an upstairs room and now Karen and Gerard call me Manny.  I guess that's my new name but I kind of like it.  The ride here wasn't too bad.  The carrier is nice and big and I can hide behind it really well!  Ha, ha.  I lost my appetite with all the commotion of moving here.  I walked around the walls, there are four.  I have a double bed I haven't used yet next to the carrier and my old litter box and food dishes came with me so those are in there too.

Sunday:

During the night, I jumped up on the desk by the window.  It's a very nice view of the neighborhood.  I like that too.  Karen came in and read to me this morning so I let her brush me and pet me some.  She seems very nice.  It's pretty quiet here, but now and then there are loud scary noises and yesterday I heard music.  That was sort of nice.  I don't like the noises though.  Karen brought me some newspaper this morning too along with a soft tent that has a mouse dangling in the doorway.  I haven't tried it out yet though.

Monday:

I used my litter box two nights after my kidnapping.  Karen seemed very pleased with that this morning.  At least I am in control--I found that if I hiss at these people, they back off.   I decided to start eating during the night.  I know they never come in then so I won't be interrupted.

Tuesday:

I teased Karen a little this morning.  When she came in and laid across the room looking at me, I walked towards her making her think I was coming over to see her but then turned and jumped up on my litterbox to get on the desk by the window instead.  Ha, ha.  I hissed at her when she tried brushing me just to let her know I'm the boss.  I did let her touch me with one finger though.  Then I jumped down to my safety corner and watched her read the paper at my desk.  I sometimes hear another cat meow but it's on the other side of my door.  Today I did a little exploring in my room and found I can fit under the tall dresser!  It's a great spot to hide.  It took Gerard awhile to discover where I was when he came home from work.  In the evening, Karen played with a stick with me.  I caught it several times!  It was kind of fun.

Wednesday:

I laid under the dresser all day today.  It's really hard to squeeze out from under it so I didn't eat.  When Karen came home from work, she took out the bottom drawer and I leaped out pretty quick.  I ate a lot during the night to make up for not eating during the day.  My hissing isn't working too well now.  Even when I hiss, Karen still pets me anyway now.  She said I'm her pet and that means she can pet me.  Humpf.

Thursday:

This morning Karen rubbed a sock on me and walked off with it.  She tried getting me to play with the ping pong ball, but I refused.  Then she tried dangling a string which was very tempting, but I resisted temptation.  I gave her my best hiss that I could this morning, and she STILL pet me anyhow!  I do like looking out the window on the desk.

Friday:

After greeting Karen with my biggest HISS when she started brushing me, she kept at it and I must admit, it felt pretty good, but I didn't want her thinking she could do it for long so after six strokes, I whacked the brush out of her hand and she quit.  Then I went to lay under the dresser.  The bottom drawer was out so I can get in and out of there very easily now.

Saturday:

It's been a week since I've been kidnapped.  I'm starting to get used to this room.  I still like growling at Karen and Gerard though.  Karen pet me on my head a little yesterday--wasn't too bad.

Sunday & Monday:

Karen treated me different.  She acted like I wasn't even here.  She didn't try to pet me at all.  She spent a lot of time coming in and out, but didn't annoy me like usual.  Wonder what she's up to?  She put some new wet food in my cell but I didn't touch it.  I'm sticking with my regular kind.  I didn't growl at her anymore since she kept her distance.  She just sat on the chair or on the floor and read.  I heard some nice classical music playing all day today.  Karen opened the window today.  The fresh air and breeze felt really good!  She left it open all night too!

Tuesday:

I only saw Karen early this morning and in the evening today.  She didn't try petting me today.  She just read and rolled the ping pong ball by me on the desk some.  I didn't growl at her today.  I heard music all day which was kind of nice.

2 weeks later:  Introductions and Freedom

I'm getting used to things now.  I've come to the conclusion these humans aren't going to hurt me.  I even sniffed Karen's hand today!  Tonight I batted the ping pong ball around my room.  It was pretty fun.

I had a new visitor today--Wendy.  She was very nice to me.  I was in a good mood and even let Karen and Gerard pet me today.  After awhile, the nice visitor let another cat out of the carrier and she walked right into my room.  Her name is Spunky Doodle.  She's a cute little thing!

Manny Meets Spunky Doodle!

She came into my room and at first laid under the chair looking at me.  Then she walked around the room, sniffing and even ate some of my food!  THEN she even went inside my litter box!  I growled a little bit and she just ignored me.  She hissed a little at me--she's cute when she hisses--so I ignored her then too.  We looked at each other for a long time across the room.  Maybe I'll go explore on the other side of the door tonight.  So far Karen has left it open.  Karen brought in a little tuna treat but I'm not big on tuna.  Spunky ate all hers right away though in the middle of my room.

Tonight I prowled around more of this place.  Went downstairs.  Didn't see Spunky.  I found a litter box in the kitchen and used it.

Sunday, June 1:  Explored the Den and Made New Friends

Today I was free!  I explored the den and boy, is it nice!  That Spunky watched me a lot, but did give me some privacy.  She's a pretty cool cat!  I think I like her.  I even made Karen happy and went over to her when she came in the den late this afternoon and let her really pet me.  Gerard took a picture for the momentous occasion.  I think I'll be happy here now.

The end.
