Miss California Stands Up For Her Beliefs--You Go Girl!
At We Used To Be You blog, I came across a post about Carrie Prejean, Miss California, that caught my attention http://weused2bu.blogspot.com/2009/04/test-of-faith-carrie-prejean.html. One of the judges, Perez Hilton, asked her if she thought that all the United States should follow Vermont's example and legalize homosexual marriage. In response, while she did say that she was proud to live in a country that supported freedom of choice, she went on to assert that she believes that marriage should be between a man and woman, and that was the standard by which she was raised. The crowd roared, whether in support or disagreement, and Carrie, who seemed to be the front-runner, lost the competition and became first runner-up, partially due to the fact that Hilton apparently gave her a score of "zero" for her response. Not only that, but this judge apparently ranted against her personally on is weblog.
Carrie shared with Fox news that she believed that the Lord was testing her character and her faith. In her heart, Carrie knew that there was nothing, no title, no earthly crown, that could ever compare to her Lord and her place in His kingdom. She could have sold out her beliefs and given a more politically correct answer, and maybe she would have gone on to win. But as she told Matt Lauer on the Today show the following Tuesday morning, then she wouldn't be there with him. She knows that she has been given an opportunity by her testimony to show that God, and her faith in Him, is more important to her than anything she might temporarily gain here on earth.
I was encouraged when I saw this story about this girl being true to herself and taking a stand for what she believes in, even though it may have cost her the Miss USA title. I think it's really wonderful how God can use things that appear to be bad for His glory and turn things that are meant to harm His followers for good instead. I can't help but see how Romans 8:28 applies in this situation which says:
And we know that all things work together for good to them who love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
I also like Romans 8:31 which also applies here: What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
I was very impressed with this post and suggest you go read it for yourself because she gives more details and commentary on it that I did here. I also read some other things there as well and was so impressed that I subscribed to it. She interacts with her readers by encouraging them to ask her questions and she gives advice based on Christian principles (www.weused2bu.blogspot.com).
